This is a list of the most Classic Anime, series and films that defined the medium in their time or left an enduring cultural impact. Titles here are chosen for their historical importance, influence on future works, or lasting popularity across generations.
As a list of All Time Classics, it is important to include modern classics without bias towards older classics. This is intended to have all classics up to the point of making this list including very recent works.
Anime that pioneered genres, established timeless tropes, or became household names are more likely to appear. Preference is also given to works that showcase the art, style, and storytelling methods that shaped anime into what it is today.
While many of these titles are older, the focus is on how they hold up as foundational classics—whether through strong storytelling, iconic characters, or innovative direction. Some may feel dated, others timeless, but all left their mark on anime history.
The list is ordered with a balance between cultural significance and overall reception.
