Beastars

In a civilized society of anthropomorphic animals, an uneasy tension exists between carnivores and herbivores. At Cherryton Academy, this mutual distrust peaks after a predation incident results in the death of Tem, an alpaca in the school's drama club. Tem's friend Legoshi, a grey wolf in the stage crew, has been an object of fear and suspicion for his whole life. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, he continues to lay low and hide his menacing traits, much to the disapproval of Louis, a red deer and the domineering star actor of the drama club.

When Louis sneaks into the auditorium to train Tem's replacement for an upcoming play, he assigns Legoshi to lookout duty. That very night, Legoshi has a fateful encounter with Haru, a white dwarf rabbit scorned by her peers. His growing feelings for Haru, complicated by his predatory instincts, force him to confront his own true nature, the circumstances surrounding the death of his friend, and the undercurrent of violence plaguing the world around him.

I’ll be honest, I almost didn’t watch Beastars. I saw the it and thought, “yeah nahh dawg, this looks like it’s for furries.” But when I finally gave it a shot, I realized how wrong I was. This show hits way deeper than I ever expected. It’s not really about animals, it’s about people, about society, about how we deal with fear and love and the things we’re told to hide. The whole predator and prey hieracy is just basically how the real world works, different classes, expectations, people judging each other for things they can’t control.

Legoshi’s struggle with himself, trying to be good while ... fighting instincts he can’t fully escape. It’s like watching someone fight their own shadow. And Haru… man, her story broke me. She’s judged, the way people look at her, it’s such a raw reflection of how society treats people who don’t fit in. Even Louis, proud, angry, always pretending to have it all together, reminded me of how we all hide behind something.

Every single character in Beastars feels alive, they’ve got real scars and reasons for the things they do. That’s why I love it so much. It’s one of the best stories I’ve ever seen, and it made me think a lot about how messy people are, how hard it is to really understand someone. I’m so glad I gave it a chance, because it ended up being way more human than most shows about actual humans.

Mixed Feelings

Short Review: Beastars – A Weird Fever Dream I Couldn’t Look Away From.

Beastars rating:4/10.

I gave Beastars a 4/10. Honestly, it didn’t seem that bad at first. The animation was strange, the concept was even stranger, but it gave off just enough intrigue to make you hope it would turn into something great. You want the romance to work out, the characters to grow, and the main character to become some kind of badass.

But that never really happens.

A lot of scenes felt gross - some even made me want to puke. The ... tone was all over the place, and while it clearly tries to be deep, it ends up feeling more like a weird fever dream. I still don’t understand why it’s rated so highly - maybe because it’s one of the few anime fully centered on (furry) animals?

Weirdly enough, though, it does make you want to keep watching. I don’t know how, but I finished Season 1 almost by accident. I originally got interested after seeing a clip from Season 2, and part of me still wonders if it gets better. But as far as Season 1 goes: nada. Just strange vibes and confusing emotions.

Maybe that strange compulsion to finish it is a sign it did something right... or maybe it’s just furry mind control. Who knows.

This anime was good in the first four episodes, then it stagnates and loses everything it had going for it.

The main character is essentially a cuck who chases a slutty rabbit who's only character trait is having slept and still sleeping with hundreds of men. I was hoping something would change but throughout the 12 episodes nothing changed, Legoshi remains a normal student with a thing for cuckhold and the rabbit remains a very unlikable character.

The setting for the show was already questionable, with high speed metro lines and cars but no self defence tools, but the later episodes completely broke it when they showed ... that firearms and crossbows exist in that world. The whole premise of the show gone, herbivores have no reason to fear carnivores and guns existing is common knowledge. Is there a lobby that keeps herbivores from protecting themselves? Will the protagonist's actions lead to actions from said lobby and cause tensions in his personal life and the city? Nope nothing happens, instead look at this character, she slept with men, isn't that so epic and deep?

The story has a weird fixation on sex, it is talked about a lot and doesn't serve the plot at all. The show doesn't even have fan service except for the gross slut rabbit which they showed her bare behind in a dumb plotline that also changed nothing. No hot virgin wolfy gf, you only get a 2 feet tall whore.

Characters Legoshi had major fights with are suddenly cool with him in the next scene and the fight doesn't impact later actions, making them useless.

This is not a spoiler as a character literally tells you how it is going to end 7 episodes before the predictable conclusion happens.
The main character cucks out a very interested girl of his specie and not only is it cringe, it also leads to nothing.

I give a 1/10 because the author didn't care at all since he just copied human society with zero world building, didn't address the glaring contradictions it causes on his world and the cucking is weird which made me dislike the main character.
