Gekai Elise

In her first life, the renowned and genius surgeon Dr. Aoi Takamoto was Elise de Clorance, a villainess of noble descent. Elise's selfishness, insolence, and obsessive love for her fiancé—Prince Linden de Romanoff—led to the deaths of her family members and, eventually, herself. Only after being reborn did Elise realize the error of her ways and decide that, instead of ruining lives, she would devote herself to saving them. But a tragic airplane crash robs her of her dreams too soon.

By a miracle, Elise wakes up in her original body before her official engagement to Linden. Recognizing the chance to cherish her loving family and free Linden from an unwanted marriage, Elise wishes to use her advanced medical knowledge to continue down the path of saving lives. In a deal with the emperor, Elise is given only six months to prove that her true place is not on the throne, but rather with the wounded and ailing who desperately need her help.

I want to say this in the simplest way possible.

The anime is/was a good watch overall. Just like how water is good for you.
If you want more out of the Doctor Elise, aka going out of your way for sparkling water, I recommend you begin reading. It will not disappoint :)

In the world of Isekai which is I am a high consumer of, this one stands out like a lot :). It's unique and original, its fun without being "too in your face".

The art style was beautiful as well, some scenes are generic animations but they went over the top on some scenes; and ... the voice acting is chef's kiss.

As for the characters, I think if this had more episodes we could see how much more vibrant they are. But, overall, they're pretty good.

Overall, I would highly recommend this series to diverse "consumers of media". It is a well rounded story, it had great moments and enjoyable story line. If you want more out of it, if you want to eat the "fruit", more than simply drinking 'good' diluted juice, READ THE MANHWA.

Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp

Story – 8/10

You’ve got a reincarnated genius surgeon trying to redeem her past life as a spoiled noble.. what’s not to like? The premise is solid and surprisingly fresh for the usual isekai/romance-medical-fantasy soup. The anime follows the manhwa/web novel pretty closely at first, but then it suddenly remembers it only has 12 episodes and starts speedrunning character arcs. Blink and you’ll miss a trauma.

Art – 6/10

Elise looks great. Everyone else? Pretty decent. Animation? Eh. If you’re expecting smooth sakuga moments or high-stakes surgical drama with flair, lower those expectations. There’s a lot of standing around and dramatic talking with very little movement. It’s serviceable, but you can feel the budget giving up halfway through.

Sound – 8/10

Voice acting is a win here. Elise’s VA carries the emotional beats well, and the rest of the cast is solid. The music does its job, even if you won’t remember a single track 10 minutes after the episode ends. No complaints, but nothing iconic either.

Characters – 6.5/10

Elise is the whole meal. She’s smart, no-nonsense, and trying to unfail her life — love that for her. But the rest of the cast? Kinda just there. Linden’s supposed to be the romantic lead but spends half the show brooding like he’s in the wrong anime. Side characters barely get screen time before being emotionally resolved off-screen. The pacing doesn’t help.

Enjoyment – 7/10

Despite the flaws, it’s still a fun watch. The mix of medical drama, romance, and royalty works surprisingly well — and Elise’s character alone makes it worth sticking around. But yeah, if you’ve read the manhwa or web novel, this will probably feel like the diet version. Good for a casual binge, just don’t expect it to leave a huge impact.

Final Thoughts:

Doctor Elise had the potential to be great, but it settles for “pretty good.” It’s not a disaster by any means, just held back by rushed pacing and a lack of polish. Watch it if the premise interests you — then go read the manhwa to actually feel something.

As a lover of comically bad isekai manhwa, I was relatively prepared for this show to be, well, comically bad. It wasn't that far off.

Pushing aside the fact that the main character woke up one day and, without any previous experience in this world, decided "let's become a doctor, that's certainly won't be suspicious," the writing, the animation, and the characters all leave much to be desired. To be honest, I actually wish that this show was comically bad because, in reality, it's just cringeworthy.

I believe that the isekai genre, as a whole, is fun because of the absurdity in most situations, but ... this whole thing just feels plain lazy.
