| the short answer is no, that's not confirmed outside of a couple of anime-only references to Akagi in Kaiji that are more little easter eggs put in by the anime staff than anything. the longer answer is that it's unconfirmed, but I guess that it's possible? It's not like Fukumotos stories vary wildly enough that they'd have to take place in separate, self-contained universes to avoid clashing. There is a current chibi 4-koma series running (FKMT ALL STARS) where all of his characters live in the same universe and get up to all sorts of misdemeanors. It's definitely just a comedy/parody sort of thing though |
| nope, they're completely separate! they're only similar in the art style and general themes. you definitely don't have to watch both! Kaiji is the more accessible of the two because it's about different games and gambles, whereas if you're not familiar with the basic rules of Japanese-rules mahjong Akagi can be confusing. but they are both worth the watch if you're up to it :) |
