Personally, and have in mind this is coming from someone who has only seen the OVA prior, I loved it!

Definitely made me interested in finally checking the manga for sure, and I thought it was a great movie on its own as well. In fact best one for 2019 for me. Sure brakes the rule that live action based off of Japanese media can't be good.

Also I heard the mangaka himself adores it so that is telling.

What did you think of it?

I know this is late but imma just gonna put my opinion in here i haven't seen the manga or the ova but when i watch that movie i really liked it and it made me want to read the manga i still haven't read the manga so my opinion might change and the movie i think that wad a 9 for me that was a blast......

Decent just as a movie, excellent for an Anime-to-Live-Action adaptation, but a bit rushed. Definitely leaned too hard into the visual spectacle of things rather than spending time on characterisation, it's one of the few movies that would actually be helped by being made over 2.5/3 hours in that regard. Would appreciate if the sequel actually went through.

Well I for one already loved Lain.

The first half was kinda okay and in some moments enjoyable, but the more I watched the more I disliked it. Still better than OVA lol

its one of the greatest live action movies, especially alita herself conveyed the emotions and character really good, it is better and more relateable than the ova but the ova gave a good base for the movie (a lot of scenes are taken directly from the anime) but the movie added a lot more stuff too, we need a sequel to finish the story
