| In Episode 24, Sora actually managed to kill BT after entering the town, which is flabbergasting to me because BT was just about to stock up on potions/resurrection scrolls and likely save the game... so it turns out that PK'ing in a town is actually a legal in-game action! This has some wild implications, of which were not explored in the series at all, but would certainly happen if this were to take place in any MMO. Imagine that you are coming back from a multiple-hour long crawl throughout a dungeon or two, and gained quite a bit of loot, gold, and experience you wanted to persist... now what if you had a group of people who would decide to capitalize on this by, say, setting up a checkpoint around essential shops and save stations? Imagine if you could be PK'd while you are saving your game... what happens, then? Is the save system atomic enough to handle a player dying mid-save? Also, it is rather unclear, but what happens to things like money when you save and die? Do you regain that money, or is it lost? If you traded an item to someone and then died and then had to roll back your save, would you get that item back, hence duplicating it? Assuming that the obvious answer is "no, once a trade has been comitted, that transaction is made persistent," then one has to wonder what happens if and when someone gets extorted for hard-earned money and gear, only to give it up and then get PK'd anyway... Either way, I could see some maxed level characters just PK'ing in town just for fun, and I personally would do it just so that CC Corp would get off their asses and make it impossible to PK in town. |
