Not a big fan of this new OP, though that may just be because I don't like the song. Likewise, I don't really care about this case that much. Even though it's canon, it still feels pretty fillery. Maybe the next episode will be able to change that, but I am not expecting a satisfying resolution. Conan has already compiled motives for all the suspects, so whichever one it turns out being won't be much of a twist.

Happy and surprised to see a canon episode so soon. Saw plenty of nostalgia in this episode from seeing Maria (who hasn't appeared since the Karasuno name drop) to hearing a callback to Yukiko's disguise as Edogawa Fumiyo.

The case is a breath of fresh air from the more serious cases. Plus, I'm hoping we get some more interesting plot movement with this case. Given that Conan is an elementary student, I thought that we would get a good chunk of cases involving the school from time to time.

Find a bit funny that Conan has noticed he hasn't grown at all so I'm wondering what will happen if a couple of years go by within this series' timeline. If Haibara and Conan don't age or show that they are aging people are going to start questioning stuff. Seem like they are in the same predicament as that kid in Baccano.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I wonder how long it has been since Sera's mom took APTX 4869.

Notice: I read most manga in Japanese now so I'm not sure where you can read in English. Sorry in advance.

When you've been a 7 year old for over 20 years, people begin to question things.

great episode

so who is guilty for you???

for me the ghost story kid is too obvious no???

so probably the second one even if the little girl has a motivation for that...
if you hated this episode/chapter, just watch/read something else...

I wasn't expecting to be as engrossed in this case as I was! The motives, the suspect lineup, and the setting are actually pretty entertaining.

In terms of resolution, I have a theory that may very well be wrong as it's pretty out there, but here it goes: I think Haibara did it. She wanted the professor to be there for the parent's day and since she's so intelligent and a scientist, she knows chip bags are a great fire starter (they combust and live nothing behind IRL); she got the idea when she saw Danno in the Konbini. The clues that point to her:

  • she jumped to put out the fire because she didn't want it to get out of control (she felt responsible since it was her creation).
  • she kicked the vase and spilled water on herself on purpose to hide evidence.
  • she keeps her hand in her pocket the whole time after she puts out the fire. Why?
  • the cashier actually gave her two 10 yen coins, so she lied to Conan.

Okay, so after a quick search, 10 yen coins are made of bronze, which Aï would know. This makes it clear in my mind that she used the coins and the battery in the timer to short-circuit its system, generate heat, and create the fire. I just don't see how the actual children could've known to do that unless one of them is also a tiny adult.

🤯 I think you are onto something there. Haibara doesn't like to look like the sentimental type, but she cares that Agasa won't be there.

Not sure it makes sense for Maria to do it considering she already knows postponing it wouldn't guarantee her mother won't come to the rescheduled one. Donno seems like a foil and I'm not sure about Takuma.

@hai_X_is Yes, you raise some valid points! Even with a rescheduling, it's not sure Maria's mom will be all good to show up to the next parent's day. Plus, Maria is a sweet, already established character. It's hard to see her as the arsonist type.

Then, Danno's motive is very elusive, and if we're to believe his flashback he seemed to actually believe in the ghost, so why try to set up all of this subterfuge to fool the class? If he really believes in it, he probably expected the ghost to take revenge on his own.

As for Takuma, we would have to believe that in order to hide one broken tulipe, he went and burned the whole thing which makes no sense as it brings more attention to it and makes the crime bigger (and falling on a tulipe isn't a crime to begin with, it's an accident).

Now, Haibara being the culprit would be pretty subversive as the main characters never are, but since this case is so low-stakes, I do think there is a chance, especially since it would actually make it really interesting and fun. It would be something we haven't seen in more than twenty years of this series.

Well Haibara is the most likely culprit since, besides adult and persons who took a drug, it would be very strange to see 7 years old pull up a trick like this.

Well, that was hilarious, the idea of Conan's mom showing up, the whole set up with the kids at the store like they were the regular criminal of the episode, the concept that any of them would be able to pull some trick to burn the flowers, Ai with her hand in her pocket just because lol also the new kid talking from the window was kind of funny with how dramatic he is xD
