there has to be a second season, so much left unanswered, and left undone. enjoyed it but will say, in my opinion I'm personally not a fan of time skips, that long. makes what happend in the past Less impactful and unimportant.

Amazing finale, didn’t go the way I expected, but that’s how this whole story’s been. Just one surprise after the other, just like life. Seeing Jinya finally happy after everything he’s been through is everything to me. I just hate that the production fell apart at the end. Without a doubt one of the best stories this year and some of the best character development you’ll see.

I was so worried Suzune might try something to attack Jinya and Asagao, but instead, this episode is just a nice reflection on Jinya’s life to this point. It’s the sort of philosophical and nostalgic episode that’s made this series so special. I know this isn’t the end of the story in the books, but it’s such a nice stopping point it does feel like the end of one chapter of Jinya’s life. It’s cool how this time travel arc was just a respite for two souls that had been wandering for so long in Jinya and Asagao. Asagao isn’t immortal obviously, but she’d been dealing with a lot of insecurity back in the present and this time with Jinya helped her see what really matters in life.

CHITOSE IS ALIVE?? It’s so fitting we end with Jinya and Chitose talking as it was their farewell that really started the story back in the first arc. This marks a full circle moment for Jinya. He left Kadono as a sad angry boy, he returns(metaphorically since he’s with Chitose) as a happy man and father. The fact she’d been waiting all those years to have him try her mochi and tea was so beautiful. He then pays that forward with Asagao at the end of the ep.

I love the scene of Jinya walking past Suzune and her kids and not even noticing. It’s symbolic of him fully moving on from the past and looking toward the future now. He isn’t fuelled by hate or revenge, he just wants to focus on the present with his daughter. Probably the single most significant scene in the series along with him accepting his childhood love’s death.

Jinya remembering his promise to Asagao just like Chiyo remembered their promise is so sweet, but Jinya is going to make Asagao fall even more in love with him if he keeps that smooth talking up lol.

“The longer we live, the more things we lose, but there’s gains to balance out the losses.” That right there sums up this amazing story, just like Frieren. Awesome viewing experience, awesome finale. I just hate we didn’t get any Ofuu scenes in this ending 🥹 onto the books.

Loved this anime. One of the only handful of animes that was worth following through in this last two mundane seasons post covid. Shame about the studio having consistent time issues on production, but the art and ambience was beautiful, especially the first episode where they had the most time. Double shame the previous episode showing a future spoiler makes me think there won't be a 2nd season. Manga is behind, so have to read the LN now

Would be a dream if another studio could produce a next season (imho i don't really care for highclass animation), bcs that was a "special" way of animation in many episodes.

Since i still read the Light Novel i like the series anyway a lot because of a personal reason. 10/10; ofc way better than jjk (i won't react on triggered ppl heh)

For better or worse the very first arc was nothing like the rest of the show. Questionable decision, but oh well. In the end Kijin Gentoushou is good but uneventful mystery show with some monster of the week vibes. Production was average with exception of few eps, but at least Yokohama Animation Lab was able to finish it. Sadly, finale was pretty dull. 6/10

Thought there was only one reunion they were focusing on but turns out there were two.Was not expecting them to fullfil that promise to Chitose this soon or in person really.

Now waiting for his teased reunion with his one remaining family member.Real sweet how they handled Asagaos part showing how much Jinyas changed since then.Mightve missed something,if the priest said it was the 2nd case then who was the 1st?

Coming into this show very skeptical for reason not need said, but happy to say got less then what bargained for.Very obvious production wasnt all too well quite number of times, but personally the things they did do right outweighs it a lot more.Same can be said for the story itself.Would love for it to get a 2nd season but who knows how much support it got to warrant it.Gonna give it a

@Szabesz This right here, honestly I knew without a doubt it was him just due to the apple thing. I was more surprised to see Chitose though, when she started talking to Jinya like she knew him I suddenly started thinking about who the heck she could be.

@SHjiwani Really depends on a lot of factors we can't really predict, but I'd say if this was REALLY popular in Japan there's almost a 100% chance of it happening.

Based on comments on bangumi.tv, the reception is rather mixed, especially the first episode is what divides people. A lot also complain about Yokohama, but find the story great. Though I'm not sure if this is an accurate representation of the Japanese audience's general opinion.

@Szabesz Yeah it’s somewhat believable due to the Yokohama complaints but I’m also skeptical of that info too.

It's unfortunate about the second cour's animation, this show had some good moments and amazing final goodbyes with so many characters.

I'd be surprised if this does get picked up for another season. Which is a shame really becasue I feel like it has so much more story to tell. Every now and again this show has surprised me and I still have Ep6 and Ep19 as my personal favourite.

There were production issues as always, but I really liked this finale, a lot of important lessons were learned and there were some very heartwarming reunions too, I especially wasn’t expecting Chitose, like I knew this old lady knew Jinya somehow because of the way she was around him but couldn’t place who she was, well turns out it was Chitose from way back in the original village, I’m glad she’s been doing well ever since then. The Asagao/Kaoru stuff was really good too, her situation hit pretty hard with me, like how she was pretty much using this jump to the past as an escape from life, which is really interesting considering one would usually be distressed if they got sent back in time like that.

And we actually did get teased on Suzune and her goons near the end, I appreciate that they gave us that one moment because there wasn’t really time for anything big to happen in this final episode that wouldn’t feel like a mean cliffhanger, so I’ll take that. And the final moments of the episode between Asagao and the future Jinya made for a really nice ending, a lot of the show has been about life lessons so ending on one is fitting, I also thought this was a really nice way to tie in the 2009 era since we’ve been seeing it here and there over the course of the show, this way it feels like all the pieces are connected.

And that was it for “demon hunting with a side of life”, best way I can think to describe it, I went into this thinking it would be a badass epic of slashing up demons, and it kinda was that, but it also turned out to have a lot of heartfelt stories featuring some of the best writing I’ve seen in an anime, and that’s what made it really special, it’s such a shame Yokohama botched the second cour so hard because it really was a great show beneath the production issues, but at least they did give us a really good first cour that had little to no issues, I’m thankful for that, hopefully they’ll clean up cour 2 in the blurays maybe. And I really liked all the OP and ED choices, I think OP2 beats OP1 by a decent amount but both EDs were fantastic and really fitting for the show. I’m gonna miss having this one around, it was a good thought provoking journey over the spring and summer, hopefully a Season 2 can happen one day because there’s still a lot of story to be told from what I’m seeing.

It is very refreshing seeing the MC kinda flirting with the celestial maiden. The goosebumps she felt were real.

This show started as a power-collection, demon-of-the-week, action plot, but pivoted hard into family-man and sagely advice drops. I love it. I've always been a fan of characters dealing with immortality or extended-lifespan over generations. It's just a good plot device for teaching the value of cherishing the present time in your life. Other than the big production flub, I am totally fine with the quality of this show. Season 2 please.

And so we end with Asagao returning to her own time and a promised reunion...several of them in fact.

A rather meditative, contemplative and understated finale. Only hinting at the future conflict I expected. Pretty solid series on the whole. More episodic than I expected, but I never lost interest. I'd watch more if it got adapted. 7/10.

Animation sucked this time as well. With such shit production, is there even a hope for S2?

Ultimately plot progression is MINIMAL. Present time was barely touched and no showdown happened with sister.

Very slow show that needs 50+ episides to be decent.

It had ups and downs but I'm left with sour taste. Unsatisfied.

Wow, what a great episode to wrap the season with. I was worried that Jinta would be fighting Suzune and surely one episode won't be enough to cover that confrontation. Instead we get some gentle slice-of-life and a short hop down memory lane. Waiting for the season two announcement with bated breath.

yup, the short hiatus to improve stuff was worth it. this episode looked almost normal. one small error i think they overlooked. in his garden in the past when they're talking about her 'taking a break' and she's standing there with one of those sozu (rocking bamboo noise-makers powered by water) to her left and frame-right. the water is obviously animated and flowing... but the bamboo rocker/noisemaker doesn't move the whole time she's talking. it doesn't make that distinctive TOCK! noise either.

pretty chill pair of episodes to end this show on as well. when his lil sis showed up with her two 'daughters' after the girl travels back to the future... i was expecting some kind of kerfluffle or conversation or something. but nothing happened. they just walked past each other and only his lil sis turned around to glance at him to see his reaction. but he had none.

i hope another season shows up someday... from a better studio (with more talented artists and animators and fight choreographers) who won't screw things up and need a hiatus to fix it.
just an ol school American otaku enjoyin the life. don't sass me kiddies, i've been otaku probably since before you were born. leave me in peace and i won't bother you either.
