Ah, Makio has a hard time about her past, especially when involving Shingo.

Yeah, that date had some awkward moments but it was just two old flames catching up. It seems Makio was really unsure about even going at first. But still, I think this was a realistic protrayal of her character. Makio always seemed like the type to guard her feelings carefully.

So much of Makio!!!!! I can really relate to when Makio got so confused and upset when Asa asked why she can’t do something so simple (cleaning). My room is almost always a clutter, but whenever or if I let it pile up too much, it’s so hard for me to clean. Like what part do I clean first? The bedsheets? The dirty clothes? Should I put the basket of clean clothes away first or rewash them….. it gets hard when people say it’s so simple but to me it’s not.

Also Makio, I love hands too. I’m so glad they kept the hand scene with Kasamachi-kun! The way his finger glided across the menu. Just yummy. I feel like they have become more than friends a little less than lovers sorta thing. Kasamachi-kun still clearly loves Makio a kot and wants to be close in any capacity he can. Same with Makio. Understandably, this might seem toxic in real life but this story is fiction and I’m in love with second chance romance shit.

This show just gives and gives and gives... Does Makio have ADHD beside her extreme introverted personality? Some of the characteristic symptoms are there but of course with an anime character it is hard to tell. She is growing on me with every episode and it is not just thanks to her personality, but to her fantastic VA too.

Edit: I looked up the key symptoms of adult introverts with ADHD and actually she has all of them:

Makio getting the hots for Kasamachi was so lol

This episode focussing on her was my favorite one so far. She's perhaps even my favorite character this season. And Sawashiro's performance only adds to it. Pretty invested in her relationship with Kasamachi. Ending on such a cliffhanger is nasty.

HOW DO YOU END AN EPISODE LIKE THAT?!?!?!??! I WAS SCREAMING!!!!! Good Lord this show manages to better itself week after week. It's insane. I had it as the best new show of the season but honestly it can be a Top 5 Anime overall of this season.
Show has been incredible.

Makio's VA flexing her voice range like its an emotional speech you give before the final fight, holy shit.

More in depth reasoning for her feeling of suffocation and those hallucination, omg. Literally demons haunting her and making her loose focus constantly. Like Asa, same coin but a different side of trauma she's experienced since childhood. Kinda feel bad for her sister at this point, she was awful to Makio, but tried to course correct with Asa (those fucking journals for when she gets older reminded me of the Violtet Evergarden episode with the dying mother's letters left to her daughter for each of her birthdays to come...).

Also horny Makio by the end of the episode.

the necklace style "hanging rope" around makio' neck? i feel like it s an intentional symbol for how much makio suffocates herself with overthinking and being stucked in the negative past memories of her life. or maybe im overthinking too much?

great to see a different side to Makio here. This show just keeps getting better and better.

the voice acting and audio direction, in general, has always been fire, but Makio's VA really stole the spotlight this episode; like Asa's VA did a few weeks ago, but this performance outdid even that tbh. If Asa's VA showed emotion, Makio's did range.

The "Mad Max: Fury Road" mention was probably clear for all watchers.

Machio's recommendation for Emiri is the movie "Tomatoes". The DVD cover displays the picture of a green tomato. It is a reference to the 1991 movie Fried Green Tomatoes where a young woman offers refuge to her friend facing domestic abuse. This explains the connection Makio makes "a friend who gives you refuge".
Makio also says No matter who you fall in love with, or who you don't... It's a story about how there's nothing wrong with that which probably refers to the lesbian relationship between the two women.

I've been expecting Emiri's struggle to be discovering her sexuality and how to handle how others will react for the past few episodes tbh.

And unrelated to that, I'm screaming. I adore Kasamachi so much. He's handsome, sweet, and puts so much effort into understanding Makio and more than anything just wants to be around her. I love him so much.

As someone who wasn't diagnosed until they were an adult, same. Every moment of the Makio struggles moment with Asa, my brain was screaming ADHD in the background. There's no way to answer why we can't do certain things to people who call them simple in a way that they'll understand.

As someone who has a fairly similar personality to Makio in not all but plenty of aspects and similar experiences when conversing with others, this episode resonated with me a lot. From even the small little details like cleaning and making things organized and struggling to manage clutter in daily tasks, to more complex situations. I am neurodivergent myself with ADHD too since I was a kid, and the way the anime tackles this in a subdued, nuanced manner with mannerisms, thoughts and actions hits home. The conversation she had with Emiri was really interesting to say the least with the movie recommended as a friend to help as refuge considering Emiri's potential relationship interests not aligning with the norms that her family would be expecting when it comes to sexuality. Also considering that a LOT has been happening with Makio with her novels and meeting deadlines, to Asa and having to manage her life throughout summer break and her own relationship with Kasamachi and figuring out what they really are to each other now, those jumbling with her is easily understandable. Feels like there is not much refuge for her at the moment and it is throwing her off. The relationship where Makio and Kasamachi clearly value each other but with Makio breaking it off for issues but still remaining friends with him, and Kasamachi being compliant with her to not lose what they have, there is still a lot of chemistry in the air when the restaurant scene was presented as well as the park scene after. It is a josei manga adaptation but the way the series executes its themes and emotions is really strong. Looks like Makio is still relatively into her ex, even after feeling guilty for feeling that way due to being the main pusher for them not being together in that way anymore. Human emotions are a real mess and the show can present it well in a way that doesn't just feel like melodrama for the sake of it. Seeing them actually converse their emotions and Kasamachi put sincere effort to understanding her and trying to delicately manage their friendship/relationship situation just to be around her is great stuff.

This show has been so great, and it continues to get better and better. Asa's a very interesting character herself, but Makio's one of the more compelling and hard-hitting characters I have come across in quite some time. Hopefully the show continues to head in the right trajectory before its conclusion I assume in this very season.

The focus on Makio in this episode really did the character good. Her perspective on the story came across really well here. I particularly liked the scene at the beginning where she didn't notice what was happening around her. Important representation. I think she recommended "Green Tomatoes" to Emiri? I think that's a cool detail.

This show has such a grand sense of time a joy to watch. I'm just bummed about the dad's side of Asa family.
Its like he never existed... maybe dad has gotten isekai'd to another world and is experiencing anal healing with song.
