Synopsis

Aoi Harukawa, Tomoya Sugisaki, and Ryou Kobayashi are three teenagers brought together by the prospect of meeting the Summer Ghost. The urban legend states that the spirit of a black-clad young woman with long hair will appear in an abandoned airfield when fireworks are lit.

During their search, the three are bearing the weight of the world on their shoulders. Relentlessly bullied at school, Aoi does not see a point in continuing to live. Tomoya is forbidden from having a creative outlet for his stress due to fears that it will affect his grades. Ryou quits his basketball team despite still feeling passion for the sport.

Each teen has their own reason for wanting to meet the spirit who died by suicide, but it seems as if something else draws Aoi, Tomoya, and Ryou together. As their summer comes to an end, the trio begins to wonder if the ghost will be able to provide answers to their lingering, morbid questions about death.

Ive watched the anime adaptation of Summer Ghost multiple times and picked up the manga in hopes of filling in the gaps left by the short film, particularly to learn more about the characters.
And I was pleasantly surprised in more ways than one. The manga takes its time with each character, exploring their struggles in greater depth and expanding on plot points that were only briefly touched upon in the anime.

The character designs are even more refined here, and the overall art style is detailed and expressive.

I came to read this after I finished the adaptation. I felt like the anime was really good, but was lacking a bit of depth and relationship between the three characters, so I decided to read the manga, and boy do I not regret it.

The anime primarily focuses more on the relationship between Tomoya and the ghost. I guess you can say it was mostly from Tomoya's perspective.
