Hrm, good question, actually. First of all, I don't think the rating has necessarily to do with whether or not I drop a show. I usually drop shows because they are boring rather because they are bad. To think about it, I went through my dropped list to look at it myself: A lot of shows are victims of the classic 'First 3 episodes' rule. They just don't grab me enough to warrant watching them any further, but they might not be offensively bad. Other shows, like Shinsekai yori and Tiger and Bunny, are recommended to me and I really try to see why people like the show so I try to force myself through, but at some point I just get so tired that I end up dropping the shows anyways. Then there are shows I wanted to like, like Boruto, which I just couldn't. I kept on watching, but I just continue to suffer, until I drop them as well.
On the other hand, there are the shows I finished even though I did not enjoy them what so ever. Some of them are the so called 'great shows'... that sounds a bit mean. But, those shows liked by a mayority of fans. Like Cyberpunk, Cowboy Bebop or Ping Pong the Animation. I watched them to completion because I either watched them together with other people (Cyberpunk) or because of a dare where I and some friends tried to watch all Top 100 anime shows; so I had to sit through it. And finally, some of the really bad ones are the result of me having a fever a few years ago, where I felt so bad that I thought 'you know what, I'm feeling like shit, it can't get worse, even if I watch Mars of Destruction.' Actually felt better the next day, so it worked wonders. I think those categories fit all anime rated 4 or less.
But well, hope this helps. Summed up, I think I can watch a bad but enjoyable anime, but watching a just boring anime that evokes no feelings whatsoever is... a waste of time really. Doesn't mean the boring anime has to be really bad. Like, I think Solo Leveling has decent art work, but I find it boring as hell. It just clearly isn't for me.
