Fair enough! I did assume you'd be familiar, it's not like any of them are particularly obscure, I just think they're slightly overlooked by the anime community at large, for reasons that are obvious to anyone like you or me, I'm sure. Also, one last one, but this might just be me, I really do recommend the Monogatari series. Its detractors are extremely vocal, as is the parts of its fanbase that watch it for all the wrong reasons, but if you manage not to care about them, it's an incredibly told story, which highly influenced Sonny Boy, for example.

Some of these I'm sure you're already well aware of, but since you also seem to value more creative and less trope-filled writing, I can recommend Serial Experiments Lain, Mushishi (which I believe is already on your to-watch), Sonny Boy, Tatami Galaxy and FLCL, which are all quite evocative, I'd say. For Mushishi specifically, I do think the manga serves the purpose of the story better than the anime, but I'm sure at least some people would disagree, and rightfully so. I might be too partial to reading!

Love your little comments under Frieren and Violet Evergarden, nice to see common sense analyses of them, however short. I would love to recommend some shows whose themes might resonate with you, if you'd be interested!
