Road to the top is a great place to start. The animation, writing, and characters are on par with some of the best of the series, and this one is short, so if you don't like it, you don't have to go through the rest of the series.

This being third may be odd, as it could be a good starting place for the series, but it breaks some of the molds that Road to the Top had not yet broken. If you want to just have the best story in Uma Musume, just watch this series.

This is last as it is really the worst of the anime. Its not bad, but its mostly just the gags and humor of the Pretty Derby series without much of the suspense or drama.
