The official X account of Micro Magazine announced that Fuse's Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) light novel concluded its 11-year-run with the 23rd volume on Saturday.

Fuse began penning the novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in February 2013. Micro Magazine began publishing the novel under its GC Novels imprint with illustrations by Mitz Vah in May 2014 and published the 22nd volume on January 30. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken has a cumulative 56 million copies of its volume in circulation.

Taiki Kawakami began drawing a manga adaptation in Shounen Sirius in March 2015 and published the 30th volume on October 9.

Produced by 8bit, the first anime season aired in 24 episodes from Fall 2018 to Winter 2019. The second season aired in split cours Winter 2021 and Summer 2021, followed by third season which aired in 24 episodes from Spring 2024 to Summer 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

The Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken Movie: Guren no Kizuna-hen (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie - Scarlet Bond) anime movie premiered in Japanese theatres in November 2022.

The fourth season of the anime series and Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken Movie 2: Soukai no Namida-hen (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea) were announced in September 2024. The second anime movie is scheduled to premiere on February 27, 2026.

Yen Press licensed the novel for English release in April 2017 and published the 21st volume on July 8, with the 22nd volume scheduled to be released on February 10, 2026. Kodansha USA licensed the manga for English release in October 2016 and published the 27th volume on September 23, with the 28th volume planned for a December 23 release.

Synopsis
It is just another ordinary day for Satoru Mikami. The sun is shining brightly on the streets of Tokyo, and he is in the midst of a discussion with his colleagues when suddenly he gets stabbed by a passing robber. The average 37-year-old corporate worker is now at death's door, and he has only one regret—dying a virgin. Fading out, he is startled by a mysterious AI-like voice reciting commands.

Satoru abruptly wakes up in the middle of a strange cave, but something odd has happened: he is now a goop of slime! Thanks to his new body, he has acquired the skill to absorb anything and obtain its appearance and abilities. While testing out his newfound powers and exploring the cave, he stumbles upon a massive dragon named Veldora, who has been sealed away for the past three hundred years. After quickly befriending the beast, Satoru decides to help him escape; in exchange, Satoru is bestowed a new name: "Rimuru Tempest."

Wishing to avoid a life like his boring and mundane past, Rimuru is about to set out on a grand quest that will change his own destiny and the fate of his new world. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I am so emotional right now. My all-time favourite LN series has ended. All my love for fantasy and world-building in fiction is all due to this series. My heart is now void as there is no more content to feed from this. I shall cherish this moment and read the final volume with tears in my eyes and heaviness in my heart.

Hopefully the readers find something decent to read now that this garbage is ending

The manga adapts the light novel and also It doesn't matter. People jump to new things or things that continue to grow. Excluding some rare examples, this type of series growth start to die immediately after they end. And as a result Kodansha will start reducing the printing and will focus it's resources to ongoing series.

This series is in a peculiar spot, the publisher of the Light Novel and the Manga are not the same, and the Manga is a lot more popular than the Novel. Kodansha will not reduce their printing much; Slime is a top-tier hit for them, it's one of their most successful series in recent years, and had the largest initial print run.

I really wouldn't expect the franchise to die anytime soon.

I highly doubt the studio will fully adapt the series because it will finally stop being relevant since the source is ending.

The Anime is produced by the publisher of the Manga, not the Light Novel; that's why the opening says the source is the Manga, and also most probably why the pacing is slow, in general. Chances are that it'll continue having Seasons/OVAs/Movies as long as Kodansha publish it.

@mccreepyy Well the more you know. Still if you are good with this type of thing and have time, consider doing it in the future.

@K1nji_ I highly doubt the studio will fully adapt the series because it will finally stop being relevant since the source is ending. Trends change and they will most likely start a new ongoing series that will sell well. One of the purposes of the anime is to keep advertising the source material but the audience will stop growing (or at least it will never grow again that much) since the light novel ends. But even if they will fully adapt the series, the most important thing is that this series finally ends.
